Dr. Buzarbarua
became the Executive Chair-person of the Cotton College Research
Council(2002-2003) and acted as Chief Editor of the research journal RJCC(Vol.I,2003) published by the
council. She was also a member of the Departmental Research Committee of
Botany, Gauhati University. She is also a research guide and two students have
been awarded Ph.D Degree under her guidance by the Gauhati University.
She had
set up a Plant Tissue Culture Lab for the first time in the department of Botany(1991)and
after her hard work she has published two papers on Orchid Culture in National level journals. She has attended international and national level
seminars and published 8 scientific papers.
She has been
actively associated with "Assam Science Society" since 1990 and has designed a ‘Biology Kit’ for the secondary level
school students (in 1991) which was updated in 2008 with support from RVPSP, DST, Govt. of India. She has
also contributed in the preparation of ‘Bigyan
Abhidhan’ and ‘Vishwakosh’(in Assamese).
She is a life member of Indian Society for Plant Physiology (New Delhi), Indian
Science Congress Association (Kolkata), Assam Science Society and Assam
Botanical Society.
After
retirement, Dr. Aparna Buzarbarua served as Visiting Professor in the department of life science, Assam University, Silchar (2004) and also acted as Working President of Assam
Science Society during 2007-2009. Actively
associated with Suratirtha a socio-cultural
organisation of Guwahati since its establishment in 1975 and acted first as a treasurer
for 25 years, then selected and served as President from Jan.2002
to March 2011.
Suratirtha under her presidentship performed
musical programmes in the Dr. B. Barooah Cancer Institute for recreation of
cancer patients for one year (2005-2006) for which the organisation has
been awarded certificate of appreciation by His excellency the Hon’ble
Governor of Assam, Late Shiv Charan
Mathur on behalf of the institute on 19th July 2008.
Dr. Buzarbarua also acted as a
resource person in “Teachers Training Programme” organised by Assam
Science Society, actively associated with various student (School) oriented
science activities organised by Assam Science Society, like Children Science
Festival, at Guwahati (1990), National Children Science Congress, Science Talent Search Examination, etc. and ''Akhay Urza Divas'' (2008) and many
other activities.
