Dr. Aparna Buzarbarua's Journey into Music

Dr. Aparna Buzarbarua started her musical career very early in her life. Dr. Bhupen Hazarika released her first album Notun Gaan in the year 1987 which was recorded in Kolkata. She has collaborated with diverse eminent lyricist from the state, most of them recognized by All India Radio. So far, she has composed over 100 songs. She was also the first and the only woman composer approved in Assam by All India Radio. 

Dr. Aparna has been practicing Hindustani Classical music on the Sitar since 1971 and has successfully completed her B. Mus in Instrumental Music (SITAR) from Bhatkande Sangeet Vidyapith, Lucknow in the year 1981. She has had the priviledge of being trained by the most renowned sitarist of Kolkata, Late Ajoy Sinha Roy, who was a disciple of "ostad" Allauddin Khan.

Over the years, she has created a niche for herself in composing songs largely based on the Hindustani Classical Ragas and folk tunes of the state. Through her association with All India Radio, she has successfully edited two poems of Dr. Mamoni Raisom Goswami, those were composed as songs as a tribute to her. She has further produced two musical features as a part of her association with AIR and  had recently taken the responsibility to translate two of the most popular songs of Kala Guru Bishnu Prasad Rabha, into English which were later produced by her as two English songs without changing the composition of the original.
